Princeton Opens Ivy Season With Road Trip To Brown, Yale
January 11, 2019 | Men's Squash
The Princeton men's squash team won three of its final four matches before the holiday break, and it will try to carry that momentum into the 2019 Ivy League season, which opens this weekend with road matches at both Brown and Yale. The Tigers will open Saturday at noon in Providence, and then they will play a crucial match in the CSA team race Sunday at noon in New Haven.
Princeton is currently ranked ninth in the CSA, one spot out of the critical top eight, which will vie for the team national championship at the end of the season. The Tigers will open play Saturday against #15 Brown, which enters the weekend with a 1-2 record, including an 8-1 loss to Yale. Princeton swept Brown 9-0 last year in Jadwin, a match that featured a five-game thriller won by current sophomore Alex Engstrom.
Sunday will feature a showdown between Princeton and #6 Yale, which enters the weekend with a 4-0 record and will face #5 Penn on Saturday. Yale and Princeton have one common opponent this season (Drexel), and both had similar results; Yale scored an 8-1 home win, though three Bulldog victories went the distance, while Princeton won the bottom six matches in a 6-3 victory over the Dragons in the final match before the break.
Princeton ended a four-match losing streak to Yale last year with an 8-1 home win, and it will seek its first road win over the Bulldogs since the 2014 Ivy League championship season this weekend.
In case you missed it Thursday, check out the latest edition of "Beyond The Stripes" which features the sibling duo of Clark and Grace Doyle, and they journey from Hurricane Katrina to Princeton Squash.
Despite being the son of legendary coach Bill Doyle, Tiger senior Clark Doyle barely played squash early in his life. Hurricane Katrina set him on a new path, and now both he and his sister Grace are squash standouts at Princeton. Check it out in #BeyondTheStripes! pic.twitter.com/lfMyEnL79g
