Tigers Claim Three Titles, Including One In All-Princeton Final, At 2019 F&M Open

When the championship session of the 2019 F&M Open began, Princeton knew it had at least one title in the bank, and it had the chance for two more. Quincy Monday and Kevin Parker made sure Princeton got the full collection.

Monday and Parker joined Travis Stefanik as individual champions in Lancaster, Pa., during Princeton's final tuneup before the heart of the dual meet season. Stefanik won a thrilling showdown between members of the highly touted Princeton Class of 2022 in the 174-pound final, as he edged classmate Grant Cuomo 10-9.

Of the three Princeton champions, Monday was the only one who didn't come in as the top seed. The Tiger freshman won four matches as the 2-seed, including a 6-4 semifinal, and then he took out top-seeded Hunter Ladnier, a Harvard veteran, 7-2 in the final.

Monday now has nine wins in his last 11 matches.

Stefanik was the top seed at 174, and he handled his side of the bracket in impressive fashion. Cuomo was the story of the bracket, as he used a fall in the quarterfinal and then a 6-3 semifinal win to meet his classmate for the title. Ultimately, Stefanik had just a bit more and came away with the 10-9 win.

Stefanik moves to 11-7 with the win.

Whatever drama his teammates dealt with during their day, Parker had none of it. The top seed at 184 was overwhelming in his weight class, as he recorded a trio of technical falls and a pair of pins, including one in the final, to improve to 15-5 on the season.

There were other strong performances from the Princeton lineup, though the highly ranked trio of Matthew Kolodzik, Patrick Brucki and Patrick Glory didn't compete in Lancaster. Head coach Chris Ayres wanted to see his full roster get more competition before next weekend's home meets against #15 North Carolina (Friday, 7 pm, Dillon Gym) and #3 Oklahoma State (Saturday, 1, Jadwin Gym).
