Rookie Fox-Gitomer Wins Junior Gold at North American Cup

Freshman Chloe Fox-Gitomer won gold at the January North American Cup event in Charlotte, N.C., Friday.
Fox-Gitomer finished atop a junior field of 155 fencers after going 6-0 in pool bouts to earn the top seed and winning six consecutive elimination bouts to claim gold. She beat Penn freshman Lark Izenson 15-8 in the final to cap the run.
In the overall saber competition, Fox-Gitomer finished fifth of 177, again going 6-0 in pool before winning four elimination bouts. In the quarterfinals, Fox-Gitomer ran into alumna and 2013 NCAA saber champion Eliza Stone '13, who won 15-10 on her way to the semifinals. Stone tied for third in the final standings after she went 6-0 in pool bouts and won five elimination bouts. Maia Chamberlain, the 2018 NCAA saber champion who is taking time off from Princeton in pursuit of a 2020 Olympic bid, placed 21st.
In the overall women's épée competition, alumna and 2017 NCAA épée champion Anna Van Brummen '17 took silver, going 6-0 in pool bouts before a run to the finals, and sophomore Tatijana Stewart took ninth in the field of 182 while junior Kasia Nixon finished 21st.
On the men's side, alum Alex House '17 finished 12th, senior Wesley Johnson finished 19th, sophomore Dylan Kim finished 19th and 2001 NCAA épée champ Soren Thompson '05 tied for 21st of 329 in the overall men's épée competition. Sophomore Daniel Kwak took 11th and freshman Zachary Johnson placed 20th of 200 in junior men's saber
