Three Tigers Earn Gold at November NAC Event in Milwaukee
November 21, 2019 | Men's Fencing, Women's Fencing
Sofia Komar, Chloe Fox-Gitomer and Finn Miller all won their events at the U.S. Fencing North American Cup event in Milwaukee earlier this month, part of six top-25 finishes for Tiger fencers at the tournament.
The event contributes points toward fencers' selections for the Junior World Championships, set for Salt Lake City, Utah, in April 2020.
Komar, a freshman, finished first of 230 competitors in the junior women's épée event, went 6-0 in pool bouts and earned the 10th seed in the elimination draw. Komar went on to win seven elimination bouts to claim the title.
Fox-Gitomer, who is not competing for Princeton last year following her freshman season in 2018-19, was one of three Tigers in the top 25 in the junior women's saber competition along with sixth-place finisher freshman Alexis Anglade and 25th-place finisher freshman Ryan Jenkins. Fox-Gitomer went 5-1 in pool bouts and also won seven elimination bouts to take the title, seeded 40th through that run. Along the way, Fox-Gitomer met Anglade, seeded 16th, in the quarterfinals with Fox-Gitomer edging out Anglade 15-14. Fox-Gitomer got past Columbia sophomore Daniella Timofeyev 15-9 in the finals to lead 214 fencers in the event..
Miller led 297 fencers in the men's épée event, going 4-2 in pool bouts and earning the 100th seed and winning eight bouts to claim the title.
In the women's foil competition, Tiger freshman May Tieu took fifth, and sophomore Dolly Lampson-Stixrud took 97th.
