Princeton Hands #13 George Mason 1st EIVA Loss, Claims Top Spot In League Race
February 17, 2019 | Men's Volleyball
The Princeton men's volleyball team opened its 2019 EIVA league schedule in impressive fashion over a three-match homestand, a stretch that culminated Saturday in a 3-1 victory over 13th-ranked George Mason. Juniors Parker Dixon and George Huhmann combined for 29 kills in a 3-1 victory over the Patriots, a win that moved Princeton atop the league standings by itself.
Princeton, which upset top-seeded George Mason in the semifinal match of the 2019 EIVA Championships, dropped the opener 25-21, but was able to grab control in the second set. The Tigers posted wins of 25-21, 25-19, and 25-20 to move to 5-7 overall, 3-0 in league play.
Princeton hit .379 for the match, with every starter hitting over .300. Dixon had two aces, two blocks and four digs to go along with his 15 kills, while Huhmann hit .375 and added four digs and two blocks in the win. Senior Kendall Ratter had 10 kills and four digs, while freshman Jerod Nelsen came off the bench with five kills, nine digs and a .571 hitting percentage in the win. Sophomore Joe Kelly paced the offense with 37 assists, and he added four digs.
Princeton will make its first EIVA road trip next weekend when it travels to both Harvard and Sacred Heart.
