The Princeton men's volleyball team took care of business to open EIVA play this season, winning each of its first three home matches, including last week's 3-1 comeback win over 13th-ranked George Mason. Now the Tigers will try to carry that momentum on the road, a stretch that starts Friday night at the home of the reigning EIVA champion Harvard Crimson.
Princeton (5-7, 3-0 EIVA) will take on both Harvard (2-7, 2-1) and Sacred Heart (1-7, 0-3) during its first road weekend of league play. The Tigers will open play Friday in Boston in match streamed live on ESPN+ (see links above), and then they will take on Sacred Heart Saturday at 4 pm.
This will be the first meeting between the lone Ivy League programs in men's volleyball since the 2018 EIVA final, when Harvard claimed its first title with a 3-1 win over Princeton. That Tiger team was fresh off an upset of top-seeded George Mason in the semifinals, but it couldn't quite slow down a Harvard offense that hit over .400 in a tight four-set victory. All-American George Huhmann led all players in that match with 19 kills, while setter Joe Kelly gained some critical experience with 52 assists to cap his freshman season.
While Huhmann is off to another strong start this season, classmate Parker Dixon has been driving the offense early in the 2019 season. The two-time EIVA Offensive Player of the Week ranks third in the EIVA in both kills (3.8) and points (4.3), and he is one of only four players in the kills top ten to also be hitting over .280 this season. Huhmann also fits that list; he ranks sixth in the EIVA in kills (3.0) and third in hitting percentage (.337).
