Princeton Powers Past Harvard, Grabs Sole Possession Of First Place In EIVA
February 22, 2019 | Men's Volleyball
Junior Parker Dixon recorded 20 kills and hit .562 to lead the Princeton men's volleyball team to an impressive 3-1 victory over the reigning EIVA champion Harvard Crimson Friday night in Boston. That win, combined with George Mason's home victory over Penn State, leaves the Tigers as the only undefeated team in league play this season.
Princeton (6-7, 4-0 EIVA) entered league play three weeks ago with a 2-7 record, but the Tigers have won four straight since returning home from the post-finals trip to California. While the first three wins came at home, including a victory over George Mason last weekend, there was an extra level of satisfaction Friday night following the win over the only other Ivy League men's volleyball program; Harvard held off Princeton in a tightly contested 2018 EIVA championship match.
Dixon, a two-time EIVA Offensive Player of the Week, made a strong early push for a third such award after recording 20 kills and helping Princeton to an impressive .434 hitting percentage. Classmate George Huhmann added 15 kills, while senior Kendall Ratter had nine kills, six digs and hit .533 for the match. Sophomore Joe Kelly paced the offense with 46 assists, while freshman Jerod Nelsen added six digs and three service aces. Junior Greg Luck added a team-high seven digs, and he killed six balls without an error.
Princeton will look for a 5-0 EIVA start Saturday at 4 pm when it travels to Sacred Heart; the Pioneers posted a victory over NJIT Friday night.
