The Princeton women's swimming and diving team opened the 2019 Ivy League Championships by placing in the top half of the first two relays, including a third-place finish in the 800 free relay. That effort helped the Tigers finish the first session in third place overall, though there are still 19 events remaining to determine the league champion.
The quartet of Izzy Reis, Jenny Ma, Elaine Zhou and Vivian Wang opened the meet by taking fourth in the 200 medley relay in 1:40.30. The highlight split for the Tigers came from Zhou, whose fly split of 23.67 was the fastest in the field.
Reis then joined Lauren McGrath, Cathy Teng and Monica McGrath to place third in the 800 free relay. Princeton finished in 7:13.35, more than 5.5 faster than its seed time. Monica McGrath, one of a handful of seniors competing in their second Ivy Championships inside DeNunzio Pool, anchored the Tigers in a time of 1:46.81, the second-fastest anchor leg in the field.
The first full day of competition takes place Thursday, with prelims at 11 am and finals at 6; all sessions from Thursday through Saturday will be streamed live on ESPN+. Thursday's schedule includes the 500 free, the 200 IM, the 50 free, and the 1-meter prelims and finals.
