Sophomore Sine Scribbick knew there wasn't much margin for error going into her final dive of Thursday's 1-meter final, but even she couldn't have imagined just how slim it was. Regardless, Scribbick handled the pressure in championship fashion and claimed the 2019 Ivy League 1-meter diving title by the smallest margin possible.
Scribbick won her first career Ivy League championship with 282.10 points, only .1 of a point ahead of Yale's Talbott Paulsen. It was a terrific event for the Tigers overall; senior Carolyn MacFarlane posted her career best finish by taking third on the 1-meter board with 277.0 points, while junior Mimi Lin finished seventh with 265.95 points.
Scribbick helped Princeton maintain third place through Day 2 of the Ivy League Championships. Harvard leads the meet with 526.5 points, while Yale stands second with 495.5 points. Princeton has kept itself in the race with 423 points, well ahead of fourth-place Brown (330).IVY LEAGUE CHAMPION! Sine Scribbick earns her 1st @IvyLeague title by only .1 of a point! Scribbick also broke the all-time tie between Princeton and Harvard for all-time Ivy League 1-meter titles. The Tiger sophomore won the program's 14th title in the event, and the first since Caitlin Chambers won the 2015 title. Princeton had several individual swimmers in Ivy finals, including senior Monica McGrath, who placed seventh in the 500 in a time of 4:51.20. The duo of Regan Barney (2:00.55) and Joanna Curry (2:01.74) placed seventh and eighth in the 200 IM final, though their stronger event comes Friday in the 400 IM; Barney is the reigning Ivy champion in the event, and both come in with the Ivy's top two times in the 400 IM.
Freshman Cathy Teng finished sixth in her Ivy League individual debut by going 23.14 in the 50 free final. Teng would later lead off the 200 free relay, which placed fourth overall in 1:32.57. Both Lauren and Monica McGrath posted sub-23 second splits for the Tigers as they joined freshman Vivian Wang in the final.
Princeton will return to DeNunzio Friday for one of the heaviest days of competition. Prelims will begin at 11 am, and finals will start at 6 pm; both sessions will be streamed live on ESPN+.
