Alarie Named USBWA National Player of the Week
February 05, 2019 | Women's Basketball
PRINCETON, N.J. – The accolades keep coming for Bella Alarie as she was selected as the United States Basketball Writers' Association (USBWA) Player of the Week.
Â
Alarie set the Ivy League single-game records for points (45) and field goals (20) against Columbia on Friday. She was 20-of-28 from the floor, secured 14 rebounds and four blocks. Alarie also broke the program record for blocks. The junior is now just one of two players in Princeton basketball history to score at least 45 points in a game (Bill Bradley '65) while her 45 points are the most by an opponent (men or women) in Levien Gym history.
Â
The 2018 Ivy League Player of the Year hardly stopped the next night at Cornell. She added 21 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, two blocks and a steal. It was her third straight double-double.
Â
This is Alarie's second USBWA award as she picked up a National Freshman of the Week honor two years ago.
Â
Princeton battles Yale (Feb. 8, 6 p.m.) and Brown (Feb. 9, 5 p.m.) this weekend.
