Princeton Hits .544, Sweeps Charleston In EIVA Opener
February 08, 2019 | Men's Volleyball
The duo of George Huhmann and Kendall Ratter combined for 20 kills on 25 swings with only one error to help lead the Princeton men's volleyball team to an EIVA-opening 3-0 sweep of Charleston in the first of a weekend pair against the Golden Eagles Friday night in Dillon Gym.
That pair led one of the most efficient hitting performances in recent program history, as the Tigers hit .544 throughout the 25-20, 25-20, 25-16 victory. Greg Luck hit .667 (6-0-9), while Parker Dixon added eight kills. Sophomore setter Joe Kelly paced the offense with 35 assists, and he also led the defense with four digs. Both Dixon and senior Billy Andrew had three blocks apiece for the Tigers, who will return to Dillon Gym Saturday at 4 pm for a rematch with Charleston on ESPN+.
Princeton couldn't have been much sharper over the first two sets, especially the middle one, when the Tigers hit .722 and made only one error on 18 swings (14 kills). Freshman Brady Wedbush was able to make his debut in the third set, and he led a long service run that helped break the final set open for Princeton. Wedbush was also one of six Tigers with at least one service ace, while Andrew led that group with two.
