Six Tigers will head to the NCAA fencing championships, the NCAA announced Tuesday evening when revealing the list of qualifiers.
Senior épée Wesley Johnson, junior épée Wesley Yuan, sophomore épée Tatijana Stewart, sophomore saber Daniel Kwak, freshman foil Mohamed Hamza and freshman foil Cameron Levy will represent Princeton. Each Tigers will compete in 23 bouts with each win contributing a point toward the team's total, and the team title is awarded to the team with the most points between both male and female fencers. Teams are able to qualify up to 12 fencers with performance at last week's NCAA regional counting for 60 percent toward qualification and the regular season counting toward the remaining 40 percent.
This will be Johnson's third NCAA championship, as he finished 14th in 2018 and earned All-America honors with a third-place finish in 2017. Stewart earned All-America honors with a seventh-place finish last year and Kwak finished 13th in 2018 in the first appearance for each. This year will be the first NCAA appearance for Yuan, Hamza and Levy.
The NCAA Championships are set for March 21-24 in Cleveland, Ohio. GoPrincetonTigers.com will have a preview ahead the Tigers' participation in the event next week.
