#7 Lewis Fights Off Princeton Upset Attempt
March 09, 2019 | Men's Volleyball
After two straight thrillers over EIVA rival NJIT, the Princeton men's volleyball team didn't have enough Saturday night to pull off an upset against the 7th-ranked Lewis Flyers. The Tigers battled in each set, including a 27-25 second and a wild comeback effort in the third, but the Flyers held on for their 15th win of the season.
Princeton got 10 kills from Parker Dixon, eight from George Huhmann and six from Kendall Ratter, but those wouldn't be enough in a trio of close sets. Greg Luck added five kills and five service aces, while Joe Kelly paced the offense with 27 assists. He also led the defensive charge with six digs, while Huhmann had a team-best four blocks.
Princeton got Dillon Gym rocking during the third set, when a 22-15 Lewis lead was cut to 23-22. The Flyers were able to keep Princeton from tying the score, and they put the match away on the ensuing point.
Regardless, Princeton ends a positive week with an 8-1 EIVA record, and it is assured of remaining in first place for the next three weeks. Following mid-terms this week, Princeton will compete in the BYU Invitational before returning to EIVA play at the end of March with a match at George Mason.
