In the final home non-league games of the season, the Princeton softball team fell to Lehigh Wednesday at the Class of 1895 Field, 12-1 in five innings and 4-2 in the nightcap.
In the opener, the Tigers got on the board first, with a two-out triple from Keeley Walsh bringing home a leadoff Megan Donahey single, but over the last four innings, Princeton scattered five base hits. Lehigh tied it up in the second with three singles, and after it stayed tied at 1-1 into the fourth, Lehigh broke it open with a fourth inning that saw five hits, an error and a walk on the way to six runs in the inning. Mary-Hannah Smith had a two-run double for the Mountain Hawks in the inning.
The fifth saw five more runs for Lehigh, coming on five walks and three base hits with Smith getting a two-run double, and after Princeton left two runners on in the last of the fifth, the Mountain Hawks finished off the run-rule win.
In game two, Lehigh used three singles in the bottom of the first to plate a run, and two base hits, an error and a ground ball made it 2-0 for Lehigh in the second. Princeton got a run back in the bottom of the fourth when Kaitlyn Waslawski singled home a Keeley Walsh leadoff double, but Lehigh answered right back in the top of the fifth with a two-run Smith homer for a 4-1 lead.Â
Princeton scored its final run in the sixth, using back-to-back two-out base hits from Mackenzie Meyer and Waslawski to make it 4-2, but Princeton got no closer. Gabriella Nori, sister of Princeton softball alum Erica Nori '17, got the win in the circle for Lehigh in game two.
The Tigers, in third place in the Ivy but just a game out of first, will host Harvard this weekend with two games set for Saturday and one for Sunday at '95 Field, both 12:30 p.m. starts. Admission is free.
