Harvard Defeats Men's Tennis Team, 5-2
April 07, 2019 | Men's Tennis
Harvard won the doubles point and claimed the first three singles matches off court to clinch a win over the Princeton men's tennis team and take the afternoon, 5-2.
"As well as we played yesterday, we simply didn't play at the same level today," Princeton coach Billy Pate said. "I'm disappointed we couldn't get it going earlier in singles. Harvard won three sets pretty decisively and that gave them a huge advantage, particularly since we lost the doubles point. We needed to be good in every spot today and we didn't get it done. Nonetheless, we have a great opportunity to stay in the Ivy League race and compete for post season with Columbia at home on Friday."
In doubles play, Princeton won on court one with 76th-ranked Payton Holden and Ryan Seggerman defeating their second top-40 opponent of the weekend in 37th-ranked Logan Weber and Andy Zhou, but courts two and three went to the Crimson, as did the bottom four singles matches. Seggerman got a win on court two, as did Karl Poling on court one.
Cornell, Harvard and Columbia are all unbeaten in league play at 2-0 with Princeton, at 2-1, and Dartmouth, at 1-1, as the one-loss teams. Princeton will face two of those teams next weekend, hosting Columbia Friday and visiting Cornell Sunday.
