May 05, 2019 | Women's Basketball
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Bella Alarie and Team Defend reached the semifinals of the 2019 Red Bull USA Basketball 3x3 Nationals tonight at the Las Vegas Downtown Events Center.
Â
Alarie's group, featuring Aleah Goodman (Oregon State), Jordan Lewis (Alabama) and Michaela Onyenwere (UCLA), lost in the semifinals to the Oregon team led by Sabrina Ionescu, the 2019 Wooden Award winner, 19-13.
Â
Team Defend went unbeaten in pool play, going 4-0 and outscoring its opponents by 23. In the quarterfinal play-in game, the 3v3 unit took down a Maryland team, 21-12, before defeating Connecticut, 21-16. Maryland reached the NCAA Tournament second round while Connecticut made the Final Four. Â
Â
This is hardly Alarie's only time with USA Basketball this summer. The two-time Ivy League Player of the Year will be one of 36 players to take part in trials for the 2019 U.S. Pan American Games Women's Basketball Team.
Â
Trials to select the 12-member team will take place May 16-20 at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The team members will return to Colorado Springs for training camp July 23-Aug. 5, before competing in the women's basketball tournament at the 2019 Pan American Games from Aug. 6-10 in Lima, Peru.
