Rising sophomore Emma Zhao and incoming freshman Grace Ni competed at the USGA Girls' Junior Championship in Stevens Point, Wis., with each made the match-play stage.
The tournament, which began July 22, included 156 players with 64 making the match-play round, a cut line that ended up being +6 after two rounds of stroke play. Zhao cleared that at +4, tying for 44th, and Ni finished at +2, tied for 27th.Â
That moved each player to the match-play round, where Ni battled Julia Gregg, an incoming freshman at Arkansas, to a 3-and-1 defeat, and Zhao extended Jasmine Ly, an incoming freshman at Northern Illinois, to a 19th hole before Ly took the match.
