U-23 WC Update: Gaffney '23 Picks Up Bronze Medal; Several Race For Gold Tomorrow

PRINCETON, N.J. – The U-23 World Championships wrap up tomorrow, but not before the Shea Rowing Center has several rowers with a chance at gold.
Let's take a look at some of the rowers who finished action.
Men's Lightweight
Eoin Gaffney '23 earned a bronze medal with Ireland (6:01.98) in the 4x Final just behind Italy (5:59.12) and France (6:00.20). Coach Bill Manning's USA squad was fourth at 6:07.90.
Men's Heavyweight
James Quinlan and the Ireland 4+ squad (6:18.43) took seventh place in front of Germany at the U-23 World Championships. Nathan Phelps and the United States 4x did not advance to Saturday, finishing fourth during its repechange on Friday.
Women's Open Rowing
Hadley Irwin and the United States 2- team was fourth in its final, securing a 7:24.06 behind Greece, South Africa and Russia. Hannah Paynter along with Camille Vandermeer and the United States 4x boat placed fifth in the B-Final.

Men's Heavyweight
Jonas Juel and Norway's 1X team advanced to the A-Final at 11:50 a.m. David Bewicke-Copley (Great Britain) and Floyd Benedikter '23 (Germany) will race in the 8+ final on Sunday at 11:35 a.m.
Women's Open Rowing
Emily Kallfelz and the United States 1X group won its heat (7:41.17) by over seven seconds to advance to the final at 12:05 p.m. Greta Jaanson '23 (Estonia) and her 2x teammates race in the B-Final at 8:30 a.m. Hannah Scott and the Great Britain 8+ boat take part in the A-Final at 12:20 p.m.
