Three-Time All-Ivy Leaguer Murray Promoted to Lead Assistant Softball Coach
August 28, 2019 | Softball
Following a year as the second assistant coach with the Princeton softball team, Megan Murray will begin serving as the lead assistant with the program.
Murray will help shape the team's offensive vision for 2019-20 year and will also assist with defense, recruiting, and take the lead on implementing some new technologies with the team this fall.
"In her first year with the program, Megan demonstrated a passion and commitment to the game and to our players that has elevated what we do every day," Princeton coach Lisa Van Ackeren said. "Her genuine approach and competitiveness set her apart in the interview process and we are excited that she will be taking on a new role on our staff. Our student-athletes benefit from her experience of what it takes to be successful in the Ivy League and beyond. I think she will continue to bring fresh ideas and energy to every aspect of Princeton Softball."
Murray came to Princeton after a strong career at Cornell that wrapped up in 2018 with a .352 batting average, the fourth-most doubles in Big Red program history with 44 and the eighth-most hits in program history with 179. That helped her earn three All-Ivy League honors, placing on the first team in 2015 and 2018 and the second team in 2017.
In Murray's first year on staff in 2019, Princeton hit .312 in the league and saw rising senior Megan Donahey (.422), Kaylee Grant '19 (.415) and rising senior Allison Harvey (.385) lead the team in that stat in conference play. That trio was among Princeton's seven All-Ivy League honorees last season.
"I am beyond grateful and excited for this new opportunity to continue my coaching career here at Princeton," Murray said. "The drive for excellence exhibited every day by our student-athletes and people within the Athletic Department makes this such a special, unique place to work. Thank you Coach Van Ackeren and Princeton Athletic Department – I can't wait to see what is in store for this program."
Murray replaces Christie Novatin, who accepted an assistant coaching position at Connecticut.Â
