O'Toole's Three-Point Effort Lifts Princeton to 2-1 Win at Monmouth
September 18, 2019 | Men's Soccer
The reigning Ivy League Player of the Year junior Kevin O'Toole had a three point game, assisting on the first goal and scoring the game winner as Princeton defeated Monmouth 2-1 on Hess Filed in West Long Branch, N.J.
This week's Ivy League Rookie the Week Walker Gillespie added his second goal of the season scoring off of O'Toole's corner kick in the 21st minute. The goal leveled the game at 1-1 after Monmouth got lucky on a scramble off of its own corner in the 8th minute.
Â
Sophomore Moulay Hamza Kanzi Belghiti drew a foul in the box that led to the Tigers being awarded a penalty kick. O'Toole took the chance and buried it to the keeper's right as Princeton took the lead 2-1 in the 68th.
Â
The Tigers had another great opportunity to increase their lead, off a free kick from dead center just outside the top of the box. A leaping save by keeper Sean Murray was able to prevent the bending ball by Cole Morokhovich from finding the its way home.
Â
Senior Jacob Schachner made three saves in the win for Princeton, while on the other end Murray had three in the losing effort.
Princeton, now 2-2 on the season, is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 21 when it takes on Fairleigh Dickinson. Game time is at 7 p.m., in Teaneck, N.J.
