Three-Goal Second Period Stymies Men's Hockey Against Colgate
January 31, 2020 | Men's Ice Hockey
PRINCETON – A three-goal second period was enough for Colgate to pull away from Princeton at Hobey Baker Rink.
After the Tigers skated even with the Raiders in the first period, rust from a 20-day exams break may have factored in as Colgate scored three times in the middle frame – including a pair of power-play goals.
Colgate broke the scoreless tie early in the second period on the power play. Fifteen seconds into the man advantage, Paul McAvoy redirected a soft wrister from Trevor Cosgrove to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead.
The goal was the first allowed by Jeremie Forget in 96:13 of game action dating back to the Clarkson game on January 10. He had made 39 consecutive saves over that span.
The Raiders would double their lead with 12:13 remaining in the second period when John Snodgrass snuck loose in the slot and quickly fired home a Arnaud Vachon pass from behind the net. Four minutes later, Griffin Lunn one-timed a Jared Cockrell pass on the powerplay and Colgate took a 3-0 lead.
Freshmen Liam Gorman led Princeton with four shots and classmate Nick Seitz added three.
The Tigers return to the ice on February 1, hosting No. 1 Cornell at 7 p.m.
