Men's Hockey Stung By No. 5 Clarkson, 3-1
February 15, 2020 | Men's Ice Hockey
PRINCETON – No. 5 Clarkson jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a pair of power-play goals in the second period, and that deficit was too much for Princeton in a 3-1 loss at Hobey Baker Rink.
Jeremy Germain had the Princeton goal, briefly giving the Tigers life in the third period. Jeremie Forget finished with 29 saves.
Neither team was able to score in the first period, both sides successful in terms of killing a penalty. The Tigers had three shots on goal on their first powerplay, while Clarkson was held without a shot on their only attempt of the first.
The Tigers had a 13-9 edge in shots on goal in the first period, with Jackson Cressey, Liam Gorman and Spencer Kersten each sending three shots on target in the opening stanza.
Clarkson scored first, converting on a powerplay with 11:41 remaining in the middle period. Josh Dunne backhanded home the rebound of his own tip shot, making the Tigers pay for a penalty taken after a scrum in front of their own net.
The Golden Knights doubled their lead with a second power-play goal. Brian Hurley took an Adam Tisdale pass to the point and his wrist shot beat Forget with 4:24 remaining in the second.
Jeremy Germain got the Tigers on the board 2:09 into the third period. Moments after a Princeton powerplay ended, Spencer Kersten took a breakout pass from Liam Gorman and drew a pair of defenders to him. After a quick cutback, Kersten slid a pass to Germain driving the net and a quick snapshot from Germain beat Marotte blocker side.
Clarkson countered with a Connor McCarthy goal with 7:34 remaining. He worked down from the point and after circling behind the net picked up a short return pass from Chris Klack and scored high over Forget's glove.
The Tigers hit the road for the final time in the regular season, visiting Union (February 28) and RPI (February 29) next weekend.
