No. 22 Women’s Swimming & Diving Sits First After Third Day at Ivy Championships

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 22 Princeton University women's swimming & diving team ended the third day of the Ivy League Swimming & Diving Championships in first-place after winning a pair of conference titles and setting a school and pool record Friday inside the Katherine Moral Coleman Aquatic Center.
With 1,020 points the Tigers sit in first place; Harvard University is second with 964 and Yale University third with 745.4
Ellie Marquardt opened the night with a first-place finish and pool record in the 1,000 freestyle and Nicole Venema won the 200 freestyle and set a new Princeton record.
1,000 Freestyle
The 1,000 freestyle proved to be a strong event for the Tigers, as Marquardt finished first and broke the pool record with a time of 9:34.71 seconds. Her time was also the second-fastest in school history. Elizabeth Boeckman finished fourth in 9:48.15 seconds, the third-fastest time in school history, Courtney Tseng finished eighth in 9:55.39 seconds, the sixth-fastest time in school history and Anna Durak took ninth in 9:55.75 seconds, the seventh-fastest time in school
history.
200 Freestyle
Venema was spectacular in the 200 freestyle, finishing first and setting a new school record after she touched the wall at an NCAA B cut time 1:45.31 seconds. Amelia Liu finished fifth in 1:47.49 seconds, the eighth-fastest time in school history and Sarah Grinalds took seventh in 1:47.82 seconds. Anna Durak also finished first in the C final with a time of 1:49.10 seconds.
400 IM
Princeton finished second and third in the 400 IM thanks to Addison Smith and Regan Barney, who both earned NCAA B cuts. Smith touched the wall at 4:14.28 seconds, the fourth-fastest time in school history, and Barney at 4:14.53 seconds. Shaelym Choi finished 14th in 4:21.85 seconds.
100 Butterfly
The Tigers earned three top-five finishes in the 100 butterfly; Christina Bradley took second in 52.75, the third-fastest time in school history, Elaine Zhou finished fourth in 53.50, the eighth-fastest time in school history and Gianna Garcia finished fifth in 53.79. Jennifer Secrest also finished 14th with a time of 54.74.
100 Breaststroke
Christie Chong earned an NCAA B cut and finished third in 1:00.98 seconds while Janet Zhao and Elaine Zhou finished 13th and 14th in 1:03.18 seconds and 1:03.23 seconds.
100 Backstroke
Garcia finished sixth in 54.56 and Emily Trieu finished 16th in 55.93.
400 Medley Relay
Princeton finished second in the 400 medley relay after the team of Garcia, Chong, Bradley and Grinalds finished with a time of 3:37.80 seconds.
