No. 11 Mens Volleyball Downs SHU in Dillon, 3-0

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 11 Princeton University men's volleyball team made a triumphant return to Dillon Gymnasium Saturday night, taking down Sacred Heart University 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-21).
Sophomore Jerod Nelsen continued his outstanding play, leading the match with 14 kills on a .478 hitting percentage while also adding a match-high nine digs and three blocks. Junior Joe Kelly finished with a match-high 37 assists.
Princeton jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in the first set after back-to-back kills by senior George Huhmann and a Pioneer attacking error. The Tigers would take a 10-4 lead after back-to-back kills by freshman James Hartley and used a 3-0 run to put the set almost out of reach at 20-12 after a Hartley kill, a SHU attacking error and a double block by Hartley and Huhmann. The Tigers would hold on for the 25-15 opening set victory.
SHU managed to take a 7-4 advantage, but a block by Nelsen keyed a 6-0 Tiger run that saw Princeton jump ahead 12-7. From there, Princeton never looked back and held on to prevail in the set, 25-21.
The third set was a similar story; a kill by Luck and a kill by Alexander Mrkalj gave Princeton an early 2-0 lead. The Pioneers were able to knot the score at 5-5, but a SHU service error followed by back-to-back Huhmann service aces saw the Tigers take an 8-5 lead. The Tigers did not look back from there, holding on to prevail 25-21 in the third and final set.
