No. 12 Men’s Volleyball Earns 3-0 Sweep Over NJIT

NEWARK, N.J. – The No. 12 Princeton University men's volleyball team returned to Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) play Friday evening and a earned a 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 26-24) sweep over the New Jersey Institute of Technology inside the NJIT Wellness and Events Center.
Senior George Huhmann led the way for the Tigers as he finished with match-highs in kills and blocks with 13 and four along with a team-high two service aces and six digs. Senior Parker Dixon also added 13 kills while junior Joe Kelly handed out a team-high 30 assists and freshman Nico Posivak had a team-high eight digs. Playing in his first college game, freshman James Hartley added five kills, five digs and one service ace
The opening set began as a back-and-forth battle, but with the score knotted at 9-9 Princeton went on a 6-0 run led by a sophomore Jerod Nelsen kill and also featuring a pair of Huhmann service aces, a pair of kills by Dixon and a kill by senior Greg Luck that gave the Tigers a 15-9 advantage. The Highlanders were able to make it as close as 23-21, but an NJIT service error followed by another Dixon kill saw the Tigers win the set 25-21.
NJIT was able to again keep it close in the second set, but with the score knotted at 11-11 a Highlander service error followed by kills from Luck and Huhmann saw the Tigers jump ahead 14-11. The Highlanders were persistent and would catch up to make it 23-22 but kills by Huhmann and Dixon made sure the Tigers would prevail in the second set, 25-22.
The Highlanders took a narrow 10-9 lead over Princeton in the third set, but a kill by Huhmann followed by an NJIT attacking error and a double block by Luck and Huhmann saw the Tigers take a 12-10 lead. NJIT managed to slightly pull away and earn a set point at 24-23, but a service error by the Highlanders along with an NJIT attacking error and a Huhmann kill gave the Tigers the set 26-24 along with the match.

The Tigers will take on No. 9 Pennsylvania State University (4-4) on Friday, February 14 at 7 p.m. inside Rec Hall.
