No. T-11 Men’s Volleyball Falls at No. T-11 Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The No. T-11 Princeton University men's volleyball team was able to take an early advantage but could not hold on for the victory Friday night inside Rec Hall, falling 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-19) to the No. T-11 Pennsylvania State University.
Senior George Huhmann led the Tigers with 13 kills while junior Joe Kelly had a team-high 40 assists and 10 digs. Senior Greg Luck led Princeton with seven blocks.
The Nittany Lions took a 4-1 lead in the first set, but a 3-0 run featuring kills by senior Parker Dixon and sophomore Jerod Nelsen along with a Nelsen block would knot the score at 9-9. A 5-0 Nittany Lion run saw Penn State take a 14-9 lead, but the Tigers managed to chip away and tie it 18-18 after a Dixon kill then take a 20-18 lead following another Dixon kill along with a kill by Nelsen. A Luck kill would seal the set for Princeton, 25-20.
Penn State took an early 8-4 advantage in the second set, but a kill by freshman James Hartley followed by a Nittany Lion attacking error along with a Dixon kill helped narrow the deficit to 10-8. Down 20-17, back-to-back Nelsen kills followed by a double block by Luck and Kelly knotted the score at 20-20, but Penn State was able to hold out for the 25-23 win.
A 6-0 run led off by a Huhmann kill and also including a double block by Kelly and Luck, a kill by Kelly, a Huhmann service ace, a Nelsen kill along with another block by Kelly and Luck saw Princeton take a 6-2 lead in the third set. Despite the Tigers' dominant start, the Nittany Lions were able to battle back and prevail in the third set, 25-20.
The fourth set began on a high note for Princeton, with a Huhmann kill followed by a double block by sophomore Brady Wedbush and Huhmann giving the Tigers a 2-0 advantage. Princeton looked to be gaining control early, taking a 4-2 lead after a Nittany Lion service error, but Penn State was able to regroup and eventually take the fourth set 25-19, along with the match.
