Princeton Men's Soccer Alumni Check-In: Bryan Windsor '17
June 05, 2020 | Men's Soccer
Name, Class, Current Job, Hometown, Family:
Bryan Windsor, Class of 2017. I currently work as a Derivatives Trader in Chicago, Ill. I grew up in Boulder, Colo. and have two parents and a younger brother, Daniel, still residing there.
Position played and major and thesis topic:
Center midfield. Economics Major. My thesis was "The Risk Implications of Passive Investing"
Most memorable game at Princeton. Why?
Remember it like it was yesterday. It's my sophomore year in 2014. It's a must-win game for our Ivy League championship hopes. It's Harvard at home. It's raining. It's the 35th minute… Boom! An absolute banger of a free kick from Brendan McSherry. It's the 37th minute…… Boom! An absolute banger of a red card from Thomas Sanner. Big man on campus, Cameron Porter, is not deterred and scores 2 goals in the span of 6 minutes. Honestly couldn't tell you what those goals were like but I'm sure they were as beautiful as the man who produced them. The boys are up 3-0, down a man, with 40 minutes to go. It's an absolute onslaught of a second half. Those Crimson folk are on Ultra-Attack and our defense holds strong, led by Josh Miller and Patrick Barba. They end up scoring 2 goals with 10 minutes left to play. Keeper Ben Hummel is putting our fires left and right. And Boom! Game over. The boys win 3-2 and end up winning the subsequent 4 games to take a co-championship hold of the Ivy League trophy.
Toughest loss:
Had a couple tough losses, but the toughest result was actually a tie. I also remember this like it was yesterday. It's my junior year. We're playing American University at home on ESPN. We're all dressed to the nines in our new home uniforms and we're feeling good. We go up 1-0 in the tenth minute off a header from Sanner. We're completely dominating them. Possession must be 90-10 and they have one shot the entire game. It's an absolute rip off a volley from 35 yards out. Man watching that thing go in felt like I was watching it in slow motion. It was heartbreaking stuff. Never been in such a lopsided game before. We end up tying 1-1 and I'm balling my eyes out.
Funniest on-field story while at Princeton:
It's a Tuesday night match. It's Drexel. We've got a big crowd behind us given the circumstances. Brendan McSherry dices a couple fellows up and scores from 25 yards out. Just kidding. Brendan McSherry scores a tap in from 6 yards out. I run up to celebrate with him. He goes in to give me a celebratory kiss on my cheek right as I turn my head towards him. Boom! kiss. Well hello there friend. We laugh and end up winning 3-0.
Best players on the team during your era:
Cameron Porter. Need I say more? The man is an absolute legend.
Most underrated player on the team during your era: Why?
Brian Costa. The man defines box to box. Was an absolute pleasure being next to him in the midfield, because he'd do the running and defending for both of us. Was a pretty cool setup.
Funniest teammate and any examples of what made him funny:
Vikram Pothuri. Need I say more? The man is an absolute legend. There wasn't a teammate he couldn't roast. Not a banter he couldn't bant. The man can do it all.
Players on the team you still keep in touch with:
Vikram Pothuri.
Message/Advice for the current players:
Don't take anything for granted on or off the field. One day you'll be sitting in quarantine writing down your memories of your time on the Princeton Soccer team, wishing you were back.
