The Princeton Men's Soccer program gathered together virtually over Reunions Weekend to celebrate the history and tradition of the program, handing out the 2019 team awards in the process.
The Dr. William Trevor '36 Trophy
Given to the member of the Princeton Soccer Program who has shown the most improvement throughout the year.
Alex Charles '22
After appearing in 13 matches with two starts in 2018 as a freshman, defender Alex Charles logged over 1,300 minutes in 2019. He appeared in 16 matches on the back line, making 14 starts as part of a defensive group which conceded 20 goals over 17 matches (1.18 goals allowed-per-game).
The David S. Hackett '65 Memorial Soccer Cup
Given to the senior whose enthusiasm, discipline and leadership contributed most to the team and to the sport of soccer at Princeton. It is given by his teammates and classmates of the Class of 1965 in memory of First Lieutenant David S. Hackett, United States Marine Corps, who was killed in action in Vietnam on April 29, 1967. This award is voted on by teammates.
Danny Hampton '20
After missing all of 2016 following spinal fusion surgery, Danny Hampton returned to the lineup in 2017 to play in two games. In 2018, he started the first four matches, scoring a goal at Bradley, before suffering an injury that kept him out of the lineup until November. In his senior season, Hampton appeared in 13 matches with eight starts -- scoring three goals and adding an assist.
The Robert Hauter Myslik '90 Award
Given to the member of the Princeton men's soccer team who most demonstrates the passion for life, the fiery competitiveness, the unwavering honesty, and the selfless generosity of our beloved teammate, friend, and coach. Rob was a teammate and great friend of Coach Barlow, and served as a member of the coaching staff in 1999 and 2000. He was a shining example of all that Princeton Soccer hopes to be. He was killed in an automobile accident in January, 2003. Our game field is named in Rob's memory.
Mohamed Abdelhamid '20
A talented walk-on goalkeeper who made our team better by possessing all of the qualities described in the award. Mo appeared in three career matches, including a 1-0 shutout win in overtime against St. John's in 2018 and closing out a combined shutout against FDU in 2019 -- where he made a stop on a penalty kick in the 90th minute to secure the team's clean sheet. Throughout his career, Mo pushed Jacob, Jack, and Sam every day to make the GK position our deepest and most talented position.
