Chasing The Cup: Fedun '11 & Halpern '99 Meet In Stanley Cup Final

It's Tiger vs. Tiger with the Stanley Cup on the line!

The Dallas Stars and Tampa Bay Lightning open the 2020 Stanley Cup Final on Saturday night and each side has a Princeton Tiger as part of its group.

Taylor Fedun '11 is a defenseman for Dallas, while Jeff Halpern '99 is an assistant coach with Tampa Bay. Each Tiger alum is four wins away from his first Stanley Cup. Winning a championship is not something new to Fedun and Halpern – each was part of an ECAC Championship during their time at Princeton. Halpern had 53 points in 36 games during Princeton's 1998 ECAC title run, while Fedun had 14 points as a freshman during the Tigers' 2008 ECAC championship season.

Fedun, who played in 127 career games for the Tigers from 2007-11, had played in 11 Stanley Cup Playoffs games for the Stars this season before sitting out of late with injury.

Halpern is in his second season as an assistant coach with the Lightning as part of his first NHL coaching gig following a 14-year career as a player which saw him appear in 976 games and tally 373 points. Halpern played 140 games with Dallas during the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons, registering 49 points for the Stars.

No matter the result of the upcoming seven-game series, Princeton will add a fifth member to its Stanley Cup club.
