September 30, 2020 | Women's Rowing - Open
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Women's Open Rowing Team helped raised $17,200 for the Loveland Foundation earlier this summer.
The Loveland Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to Black women and girls seeking mental health support.
The fundraiser, put together by tri-captains Lauren Johnson, Hannah Scott and Will ten Cate, consisted of an erg/bike/runathon, allowing options for teammates who didn't have access to equipment or who had injuries. In the weeks leading up to the day of the event, the team reached out to friends and family in order to collect pledges from sponsors for each kilometer that they would erg, bike, or run.
The team erged/biked/ran over 750 kilometers and raised over $9,000. $8,200 of which was matched by a donation for a total of $17,200 donated to The Loveland Foundation.
"My teammates are the strongest and most passionate women I know, on and off the water, so I knew we could really make an impact for an important cause if we came together as a united front," said Johnson. "It was incredibly inspiring and empowering to see the team use that competitive drive toward combating racial injustice and supporting the Loveland Foundation."
