2022 SCHEDULE
A season-opening weekend in Florida and a spring break trip to California will get the 2022 season going for the Princeton softball team, the program has announced.
Notes on the 2022 schedule:
• Princeton will be making its Spring Games debut at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex in Leesburg, Fla., with opponents to be determined. Teams scheduled to compete there that weekend include Bethune-Cookman, Butler, Cornell, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, Iowa, Liberty, Maryland, Missouri, Monmouth, North Carolina, North Florida, Ohio State, Rutgers, Siena, South Alabama and Stetson.
• Princeton will spend spring break in Southern California, starting in San Diego for two against UCSD on March 8, followed by two in Los Angeles against Loyola Marymount on March 9, and then Santa Barbara for a UCSB-hosted tournament March 11-13. Opponents for the UCSB event are to be determined. The UCSB head coach is Brie Galicinao '02, a four-time All-Ivy Leaguer at Princeton who was a two-time Ivy Pitcher of the Year (2001, 2002), and the 2001 Ivy Player of the Year, earning the honor as the first person to win both Ivy annual awards in the same season. A Princeton-UCSB matchup would be the first time Galicinao has coached against her alma mater.
• The Ivy League schedule begins at home on March 19 against Brown for the first Ivy games at Princeton Softball Stadium at Strubing Field. The league format is again a single-division, 21-game schedule with three games against each team and the second-place team after the seven weeks playing a best-of-three at the first-place team for the Ivy League title and automatic NCAA bid. Princeton will have Brown (March 19-20), Dartmouth (April 2-3), Cornell (April 9-10), and Penn (April 23-24) at home in 2022 and Harvard (March 26-27), Yale (April 16-17) and Columbia (April 30-May 1).Â
• Once the Tigers return east after spring break, four non-league opponents are on the slate, at home against Villanova (March 23) and Rider (April 27) and on the road at Monmouth (April 5) and head coach Lisa Van Ackeren's alma mater Lehigh (April 13).
