The most recent game between the two schools came in 2015, a 4-1 win for the Tigers at Hobey Baker Rink.
WELCOME BACK
Princeton takes the ice tonight for its first game in 602 days. When we last saw the Tigers in action, they had completed a sweep of Dartmouth in the first round of the ECAC Playoffs and were primed to take on Cornell in the ECAC Quarterfinals before the remainder of the 2020-21 season was cancelled due to COVID-19.
THE CAPTAINS
Senior defenseman Matthew Thom will serve as captain this season, joined by Luke Keenan and Christian O'Neill who will serve as assistant captains. Thom was named captain ahead of a potential 2020-21 season, and took a gap year from the University to return to compete this season. He has appeared in 89 games, and was part of Princeton's 2018 ECAC Championship team. Keenan, also a part of the 2018 title team, followed a similar path as Thom in taking a gap year to return for one more run. The most experienced Tiger on the roster with 97 career appearances, Keenan had a career-high 18 points in 2019-20. Through two seasons with the Tigers, O'Neill has 16 points in 53 games.
REMEMBERING THE LAST TIME ON ICE
After going 1-3-4 in overtime games during the 2019-20, Princeton won a pair of overtime contests at Dartmouth to sweep the Big Green in the ECAC Playoffs. In Game One, the Tigers thrice rallied from a goal down -- eventually tying the game with a Finn Evans goal at the 17:15 mark of the third period to force overtime. In OT, Reid Yochim finished a 3-on-2 3:36 in to secure the win. Game Two saw the Tigers build a 4-1 lead in the third period before Dartmouth stormed back to tie the game with 2.3 seconds remaining. Mark Paolini was the hero for Princeton, scoring a PPG 10:55 into overtime.
POWERING UP
Princeton scored a power-play goal in 13 of its last 22 games in 2019-20, scoring 19 total PPGs over that span. The Tigers now have at least one PPG in 18-of-31 games this season. Overall in 2019-20, Princeton was 25-for-114 on the powerplay (21.9%) which ranked No. 16 in the country and No. 4 in the ECAC. Corey Andonovski and Christian O'Neill each had three PPGs in 2019-20, while Spencer Kersten and Mark Paolini each had two.
PAOLINI PAYING OFF
Defenseman Mark Paolini went 11 games without a point from 11/2/19-1/3/20, but ended 2019-20 with nine points in his last 15 games -- including the OTGWG to advance the Tigers by Dartmouth in the ECAC Playoffs.
