Women's Swimming & Diving Opens 2021-22 Season Saturday

Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton University women's swimming and diving team begin the 2021-2022 season in Rhode Island at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center, where Ivy League rivals Brown and Dartmouth await the Tigers. Meet start time is set for 11:00 AM. Princeton hopes to continue where they left off in the 2019-2020 season, when they went 9-1 and earned first place at the Ivy Championships.

At the 2020 Ivys, the Tigers won six individual events and one relay. The team of Nicole Venema, Sarah Grinalds, Amelia Liu, and Christina Bradley combined for a time of 1:29.76, good enough to win the 200 yard freestyle relay. Individually, sophomore Ellie Marquardt and Venema each earned three first place finishes.

Marquardt set an Ivy League record in the 500 yard freestyle, going 4:36.37. She also broke two pool records, going 9:34.71 in the 1000 yard freestyle and 16:06.96 in the 1650 yard freestyle. Venema, meanwhile, touched first in the 50 (22.41), 100 (1:45.31), and 200 yard freestyle (48.55). Her time in the 100 yard freestyle broke a pool record.

This past summer, six current and former Tigers competed at the Olympic trials in Omaha, Nebraska. Undergraduates Nicole Venema, Ellie Marquardt, Amelia Liu, Margaux McDonald, and Liza Whitmire swam for the Tigers. Isabella Korbly was the only Princeton graduate to compete in the trials.

This year, the Tigers welcome seven newcomers to the 2021-2022 roster. This freshman class includes three divers and four swimmers. The divers include Francesca Noviello, Julia Fidanza, and Maddie Seltzer while Emily Appleton, Jaime Chen, Isabella Korbly, and Alexa Pappas round out the swimmers.

Brown
The Bears finished the 2019-2020 season with a 3-5 record. Meanwhile, at the Ivy Championships, the Bears came in fifth place.

Taylor Seaman was the star of the meet for Brown, earning a second place finish (53.82) in the 100 yard backstroke, as well as two third places in both the 50 yard freestyle (22.51) and 100 yard freestyle (48.85). Seaman has since graduated from Brown.

Now junior Sage Matsushima came in third (53.22) in the 100 yard butterfly.

Dartmouth
The Big Green are coming off a 2-7 season in 2019-2020, finishing in seventh at the Ivy Championships.

Dartmouth did earn two top-three finishes at Ivys. Now senior Mia Leko earned third place (1:58.70) in the 200 yard butterfly, while the Big Green secured another third place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:31.00).
