Women's Swimming & Diving Defeats Brown and Dartmouth in Season Opener

Providence R.I. – The Princeton University women's swimming and diving team began the 2021-22 season with a splash, defeating host Brown 192-105 and fellow Ivy League rival Dartmouth 223-75.
Princeton dominated this meet from start to finish, as star swimmers Nikki Venema and Ellie Marquardt both raced well. The class of 2025 showed their prowess as well, highlighted by Jaime Chen and Alexa Pappas.
The Tiger relay teams were on their game, going one-two in both the 200-medley relay and 400 free relay.
In the first relay, the team of Alexa Pappas, Jamie Chen, Christina Bradley, and Amelia Liu (1:41.61) clinched first, while the team of Margaux McDonald, Vivian Wang, Nikki Venema, and Ellie Marquardt (1:42.16) earned a second-place finish.
In the second relay, the team of Christina Bradley, Nikki Venema, Jaime Chen, Nathalie Valdman (3:24.86) touched first, beating out the team of Amelia Liu, Vivian Wang, Jennifer Secrest, Emily Trieu (3:27.03).
Princeton also went one-two in the 200 free and 100 breast. The freestyle event went to junior Amelia Liu (1:50.27), edging out sophomore Jess Yeager (1:52.56).
Vivian Wang (1:03.59) clinched victory in the 100 breast, just beating out Margaux McDonald (1:03.80).
Ellie Marquardt ended her day with two first place finishers and one second place.
In the 200 breast, Marquardt swam a 2:19.73, good enough for first. Vivian Wang (2:21.82) finished in third, followed by Jaime Chen (2:22.88) in fourth. Claudia Frykberg (2:34.41) also competed.
Marquardt also touched first in the 400 IM, going 4:17.16. The Tigers actually went one-two-three in this event, with Liza Whitmire (4:22.54) coming in second and Emily Appleton (4:25.87) finishing in third. Elizabeth Boeckman (4:38.14) also competed.
In the 200 butterfly, Ellie Marquardt (2:00.86) took second place, followed by Jamie Chen (2:02.53) in third and Christina Bradley (2:03.67) in fourth.
Meanwhile, Nikki Venema placed first (53.50) in the 100 butterfly, as Jess Yeager (55.61) took third with Amelia Liu (56.04) right behind her. Venema also earned a second-place finish in the 100 back, going 55.32. Freshman Alexa Pappas (55.98) finished just behind her in third, while Liza Whitmire (56.11) ended up fourth. Emily Trieu (57.20) and Claudia Frykberg (1:03.95) also competed.
Other first place finishes include Christina Bradley (50.36) in the 100 free and Margaux McDonald (2:00.33) in the 200 back.
Following Christina Bradley was Jennifer Secrest, who finished in fifth (52.59), while Nathalie Valdman (52.70) placed sixth.
Emily Trieu (2:04.50) finished in third behind McDonald, with Alexa Pappas (2:05.41) earning fourth place. Macey Mannion (2:07.07) also competed.
In the 50 free, Jennifer Secrest finished with a time of 23.89, good enough for third. Just a second behind her was Jess Yeager (24.46) who finished fourth in the short sprint.
Freshman Emily Appleton (10:04.61) earned second place in the 1000-yard freestyle, followed by Nathalie Valdman (10:18.16) with Macey Mannion (10:22.56) finishing fourth.
Elizabeth Boeckman, the only tiger to race in the 500-yard freestyle, came in second place with a time of 4:58.60.
The divers from the class of 2025 impressed in their first appearance for the Tigers.
In the 1-meter dive, Maddie Seltzer earned first place with 269.65 points. Sophomore Hanna Johnsson-Stjernstrom (251.35) finished in fifth, followed by another freshman, Julia Fidanza, whose 248.05 points was good enough for sixth place.
Fidana saw her score improve in the 3-meter dive, the 278.85 points she earned good enough for second place. Fellow freshman Maddie Seltzer (261.50) came in fourth while Hanna Johnsson-Stjernstrom (243.15) finished sixth.
Next up for the Tigers is a home meet versus Rutgers on November 13th. The meet is set for 12:00 P.M.
