Princeton men's soccer will take on St. John's in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Tournament. Kickoff with the Red Storm is set for November 18 at Belson Stadium in Queens, N.Y. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
This is the first-ever meeting between Princeton and St. John's in the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament. The two teams did play this season, a 1-0 win for the Red Storm at Sherrerd Field.
The winner will move on to play No. 1 seed Oregon State in Corvallis on November 21.
The Tigers will be making their 11th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament (1977, 1979, 1989, 1993, 1995, 1999, 2001, 2009, 2010, 2018, 2021). The Tigers are 4-9-1 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, with three of those wins coming in 1993 when Princeton advanced to the national semifinals.
Princeton's most recent trip to NCAAs came in 2018 -- with 12 members of the current team on the roster for the 2018 club -- which saw Princeton and Michigan play to a 1-1 raw through two overtimes before embarking on an epic penalty kick battle that required 14 rounds before Michigan advanced with an 11-10 edge in PKs.
The Tigers qualified for the NCAA Tournament by securing the Ivy League's automatic bid with a 7-0-0 record in Ivy play -- just the second perfect Ivy season in program history (2010). Princeton was actually the first team qualified for the NCAA Tournament, securing the AQ after a 1-0 win at Penn on November 6 which locked up an outright Ivy title and the NCAA bid that goes with it.
Princeton enters the NCAA Tournament with a 12-5-0 record overall, including a 1-2 record against teams set to compete in the tournament. Princeton's eight-match winning streak is the second-longest in the country, trailing only Missouri State which has won 15 in a row.
