Men's Hockey Stunned By St. Lawrence, 6-4
November 19, 2021 | Men's Ice Hockey
Princeton led, 4-2, early in the second period but a St. Lawrence rally was completed in the third period as the Tigers dropped a heartbreaker to the Saints, 6-4, at Hobey Baker Rink.
After spotting St. Lawrence a two-goal lead midway through the first period, the Tigers scored the game's next four goals. Three of those goals came before the end of the opening frame as the Tigers scored three times in a span of 7:21 to enter intermission in front.
Nick Seitz, Ian Murphy and Corey Andonovski had the first-period goal for Princeton, Andonovski scoring on the power play with 19 seconds remaining in the first.
In the second, Finn Evans broke in while the teams were playing 4-on-4, taking a Noah de la Durantaye stretch pass and sliding a backhander through the five hole to give the Tigers what appeared to be a comfortable 4-2 lead just 5:22 into the second period.
The Saints clawed back into the game, getting within one at the 11:08 mark of the second period.
Princeton appeared to build some momentum with a successful kill of a five-minute major over the end of the second and beginning of the third period, but was unable to stack any more goals for their cause. Instead, it was St. Lawrence who scored three times in the final 4:42 of the game to escape with the win.
Philippe Chapleau tied the game with 4:42 remaining, threading a wrister from the point through a screen and in before Aidan Porter even saw the shot. With 1:34 remaining, Kaden Pickering took a loose puck just inside his own blue line and went the other way for an unassisted game-winner. An empty-netter from Timn Makowski with 25 seconds left was the final difference.
Porter finished with 29 saves, including 16 in the second period.
Finn Evans had a goal and an assist, while Noah de la Durantaye had two helpers.
The Tigers are back in action on Saturday night, hosting Clarkson at 7 p.m.
