Weintraub's Gold Leads Princeton Fencers at October NAC Meet

Winning out of a final four that included three 2020 Olympians, Princeton freshman Maia Weintraub won gold at the October North American Cup event in St. Louis, Mo., over the weekend.
Weintraub, a foil fencer, went 6-0 in the pool round, gaining the third seed in the elimination draw. After winning her first two bouts, Weintraub ran into Tiger teammate May Tieu in the quarterfinals, winning 15-10. Canadian Olympian Jessica Guo was up next in the semifinals, and Weintraub won 15-9, setting up a gold-medal bout with another Canadian Olympian, Eleanor Harvey, which Weintraub won 15-7. Harvey defeated reigning Olympic gold medalist Lee Kiefer in the semifinals. Tieu finished seventh of 154 fencers.
Princeton was well represented in the women's épée competition between alumni and current Tigers, with Charlene Liu '19 and Katharine Holmes '17 each finishing third, Kasia Nixon '21 finishing ninth, Anna Van Brummen '17 finishing 12th, and current Tigers Jessica Lin finishing 82nd, Ariana Rausch 90th, and Sofia Komar 130th.
In the women's saber competition, current Tigers posted two top-10 finishes, with Chloe Fox-Gitomer third, Ryan Jenkins seventh, Maia Chamberlain 37th, and Alexis Anglade 49th.
In the men's saber event, Zachary Johnson was 14th, Ronald Anglade was 33rd and Andrew Johnson was 44th. The men's épée competition saw Tristan Szapary take 20th, Ryan Lee finish 54th, Nicholas Lawson takee 59th, and Michael Bissinger finish 83rd.
