PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-19) setback at Brown University Friday night inside the Pizzitola Sports Center.
Junior Elena Montgomery recorded her second-straight double-double, leading the match in kills with 16 and adding 10 digs. Junior Lindsey Kelly added a match-high 34 assists, and junior Cameron Dames led the match in digs with 22. Freshman Nicole Dankinova also finished with a match-high three service aces.
Princeton used a 3-0 run featuring back-to-back Montgomery kills along with a Bear attacking error to take an early 6-5 lead over Brown. The Bears would shortly after use a 3-0 run of their own to take a 14-11 advantage. Despite the Tigers' best effort to work their way back into the set, Brown held on for the 25-17 win.
The Bears carried their momentum from the first set to the second, starting off on a 3-0 run. The Tigers would later use a 3-0 run featuring a junior Olivia Schewe kill then back-to-back junior Melina Mahood kills to knot the score at 13-13, but Brown managed to surge ahead and earn set point at 24-18. Princeton responded with a 4-0 run, but the Bears would prevail with a score of 25-22.
The third set began as a back-and-forth battle, but Brown managed to inch ahead and take a 12-8 lead. The Bears extended their lead to 21-14, but a Mahood kill led off a 3-0 run that narrowed the margin to 21-17. Brown was able to hold off the Tigers' late rally, prevailing in the set 25-19, and the match 3-0.
