Women’s Volleyball Downs Yale, 3-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team earned an impressive 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 27-25) win over Yale University Saturday night inside Payne Whitney Gymnasium.
The victory moved Princeton to 9-4 in Ivy League play, good for second place and a match ahead of Yale who sit in third.
Junior Elena Montgomery tied for the match-high in kills with 13 and blocks with three, while junior Lindsey Kelly led the match in kills with 35. Sophomore Krystal Raymundo made an impact with a career-high five service aces, and junior Cameron Dames recorded a team-high 16 digs.
It was Yale who started the opening set on a 3-0 run, and it wasn't until 12-12 following a Kelly service ace that the scores were tied. The Tigers would use a 3-0 run to surge ahead 15-13, but the Bulldogs managed to tie it up at 19-19. Kills by junior Olivia Schewe and Montgomery gave Princeton the upper hand, and it went on to win the set with a score of 25-22.
With the score tied 3-3 in the second set, a junior Melina Mahood kill sparked a 3-0 run that put Princeton ahead, 6-3. The set was close through; with the Tigers up 21-20, another Mahood kill led off a 4-0 run to close out the set that saw the Tigers come out on top, 25-20.
The Bulldogs took an early 8-4 lead in the third set, by a Schewe kill sparked a 4-0 run that knotted the score at 8-8. Yale battled back to take an 18-17 lead, but Princeton responded with another 4-0 run to take a 21-18 advantage. The Bulldogs showed residence and took set point at 25-24, but a Mahood kill led off a 3-0 run that saw Princeton win the set 27-25, and the match, 3-0.
