July 10, 2021 | Women's Rowing - Lightweight
RACICE, Czech Republic – It was a stellar finish for the Princeton women's lightweight team at the U-23 World Rowing Championship as Cecilia Sommerfeld '25 (silver) and Bonnie Pushner (bronze) collected medals in the 2- Final.
Italy took an early lead and paced the field before taking the gold (7:31.65). Sommerfeld and her teammate Antonia Michaels (Germany) exchanged second place with Pushner and her partner Lindsey Rust (United States) in the first 1000m before Germany held a two-tenths of a second lead at the 1500m point. Over the final 500m, Sommerfeld and Michaels pulled away to grab silver (7:38.01) while Pushner and Rust nabbed the bronze (7:41.94).
"This is a historic summer for our team as it is the first time that the program has had two athletes racing internationally at the same time," said Princeton head coach Paul Rassam. "For both to medal is pretty special. Bonnie took her time away from school to train further her ability. Cecilia has been training at a high level with her German teammates for some time. They both earned their medals, and we are very proud to have them as members of our team."
