August 31, 2021 | Men's Soccer
Princeton has named three captains ahead of its 2021 men's soccer season, with seniors Alex Charles, Kevin O'Toole and Jack Roberts set to don the armband for the Orange and Black.
A group with championship pedigree thanks to a 2018 Ivy League title and NCAA Tournament appearance, head coach Jim Barlow knows he can lean on this group as the Tigers commence their 2021 campaign.
"We ask a lot of our leadership group, and I know these three are ready to step up to the challenge." Barlow said. "They have played large roles or us during their careers and have been instrumental to our growth as a group on the field and off these past 18 months. Their passion for Princeton Soccer is contagious and they are most deserving of serving as captains this season."
Collectively, the group has played in 77 matches for Princeton including valuable minutes during the '18 championship run.
Kevin O'Toole is a two-time All-Ivy selection who was chosen Ivy Offensive Player of the Year in 2018 when he paced the Ancient Eight in scoring. A two-time All-Region honoree, O"Toole enters 2021 with 25 career points on eight goals and nine assists.
Alex Charles played his way to honorable mention All-Ivy honors on defense in 2019. Through his first two seasons on the pitch, he has played in 29 career games with 16 starts. In 2019, he logged over 1,300 minutes on defense.
Jack Roberts made the most of his five starts in 2019, posting a 4-0-1 record with three shutouts and a .900 save percentage
The Tigers open their 2021 season on Septemver 3, hosting Rutgers in a Garden State clash. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium.
