Men's Ice Hockey Shuts Out Yale, 3-0
November 11, 2022 | Men's Ice Hockey
Princeton put together its best 60:00 of the early season, shutting out Yale at The Whale, 3-0, for its first win of the season.
Â
Ethan Pearson made 25 saves for his first collegiate win – and shutout – while the Tigers used a goal in each period to build an insurmountable lead. for added measure, Pearson picked up an assist on the Tigers' first goal when he teed up a breakout on the power play.
The shutout win for the Tigers was their first since a 1-0 win at St. Lawrence on January 11, 2020.
Â
An eventful first period saw the Tigers take a 1-0 lead on the strength of Brendan Gorman's power-play goal. With the Tigers on a 5-on-3 following a major penalty and subsequent tripping call on the Bulldogs, Gorman took a Noah de la Durantaye pass in the neutral zone and blazed by a defender before going under the bar and over the goalie's blocker for the opening score of the game.
That goal capped a period which saw the Tigers outshoot Yale, 18-9.
Â
Nick Seitz doubled Princeton's lead 5:39 into the second period, taking an Adam Robbins feed and cutting back on a defender before sending a snap shot inside the far post.
In the third, the Tigers smothered Yale at all corners, eventually cashing in an empty-netter from Liam Gorman with 1:18 remaining in the game.
Liam and Brendan Gorman have now each scored in back-to-back games.
Â
Princeton was 1-for-7 on the power play, but with Brendan Gorman's power-play goal now have one PPG in each of its first four games of the season.
Â
The Tigers are back at it tomorrow night, taking on Brown at Meehan Auditorium at 7 p.m.
