Women’s Swimming & Diving Opens ’22-23 With Pair of Wins

RESULTS
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University women's swimming & diving team opened its 2022-23 season Saturday inside Denunzio Pool, earning victories over Brown and Dartmouth.

Along with the team wins, the tri-meet was highlighted by Charlotte Martinkus setting a new school record on the 1-meter board in her first collegiate meet. Her score of 322.50 topped the previous record of 312.50, set by Katherine Giarra in 2009. Martkinus continued her dominance on the boards in the 3-meter diving, winning the event with a score of 289.10.
The Tigers opened the afternoon with a win in the 200 medley relay; the team of Alexa Pappas, Eliza Brown, Nikki Venema and Sabrina Johnston finished with a time of 1:42.75. Competing in her first meet at the college level, Megan Reich touched the wall at 1:51.17 to earn a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle.
Venema also earned a victory for Princeton in the 50 freestyle, finished with a time of 23.73. Sabrina Johnston also earned the win in the 100 freestyle, finishing in 50.89.
In the 200 backstroke, Meg Wheeler finished first after clocking in at 2:01.41, while Eliza Brown finished the 200 breaststroke in 2:17.87 to earn a first-place finish. Reich would earn her second win of the day in the 500 freestyle, touching the wall at 4:56.43, while Venema would earn her second of the day after finishing the 100 butterfly in 55.53.
