Robbins Nets OT Winner For Men's Hockey At Colorado College
December 31, 2022 | Men's Ice Hockey
Now that's how you bounce back!
Less than 24 hours after a loss to Colorado College, Princeton responded with a 2-1 win in overtime to secure a split of the series in Colorado Springs.
The win – the first-ever for Princeton in its eighth game at CC – was delivered via an Adam Robbins breakaway with 1:35 left in OT.
Neither team scored on the power play in the game, Princeton killing off all eight Colorado College power plays.
Princeton successfully killed two Colorado College penalties in the first five minutes, not allowing any shots on goal over the pair of early CC powerplays. In fact, it took until 8:37 had elapsed in the game for Colorado College to muster its first shot on goal.
By the time the first period was complete, Princeton had killed off five Colorado College powerplays – including 1:25 of a 5-on-3.
The shots were even, 13-13, in the second period as the pace picked up. The trio of Liam Gorman, Brendan Gorman and Ian Murphy had a stretch midway through the period with five shots on goal during one shift, but were unable to solve Matt Vernon.
In the final minute of the period, it was Ethan Pearson's turn to dial up key saves with two in the final 0:17.
Nick Carabin finally broke the deadlock with his first collegiate goal 4:27 into the third period. Spencer Kersten needed two cracks at winning a faceoff, finally kicking the puck back to Carabin who sent a shot from the point through traffic and by Vernon for a 1-0 Princeton lead.
Colorado College answered with a Jack Millar goal during 4-on-4 play with 8:49 left in the third. Off a faceoff in the Princeton zone, CC worked the puck over to Millar at the left dot for a low wrist shot that found the back of the net.
Princeton returns home next weekend for a special celebration of 100 Years of Hobey Baker Rink as the Tigers welcome Harvard (January 6) and Dartmouth (January 7) for 7:00 faceoffs.
