Men's Hockey Downed By Dartmouth
February 14, 2022 | Men's Ice Hockey
PRINCETON – A quick start from Dartmouth was too much for Princeton to overcome in a 7-3 loss at Hobey Baker Rink.
The Big Green never trailed after scoring twice in the opening 5:05 of play and a wave-off tying goal from the Tigers midway through the game vaulted momentum back to the Big Green who pulled away for the win.
Finn Evans, Ian Murphy and Corey Andonovski scored for the Tigers. Murphy finished with a goal and an assist while Spencer Kersten and Adam Robbins each had two assists.
Dartmouth struck twice to open the scoring, taking a 2-0 lead just 5:05 into the game. Matt Hubbarde netted the first goal, capitalizing after Sam Hessler knocked down a Princeton breakout pass.
Just over two minutes later, Sean Chisholm also took advantage of a Princeton turnover, firing a slapshot from the circle that trickled through Porter for a 2-0 lead.
Finn Evans cut the deficit to one 12:15 into the first, finishing an Adam Robbins pass after the Tigers forced a turnover of their own.
Dartmouth regained a two-goal lead via a power-play goal with 2:37 left in the opening period. Nick Unruh carried the puck up the ice, drawing defenders and sliding a pass to Joey Musa who was open at the far post.
Ian Murphy got the Tigers back within one 1:31 into the second period, planting himself alone in the slot and finishing a Spencer Kersten pass while the Tigers were skating 6-on-5 during a delayed Dartmouth penalty.
The Tigers appeared to tie the game just over two minutes later, but Finn Evans had a goal waved off for a high stick.
After that no-goal was upheld via video review, the Big Green regained their momentum with a goal 52 seconds later via a Jack Cameron shot from the point. Mark Gallant made it 5-2, Big Green, with a redirection in front at the 18:10 mark of the middle period.
6:42 into the third period, Braiden Dorfman made it 6-2 Dartmouth with a shot through a screen moments after the Big Green had killed off a Dorfman penalty.
Princeton pulled the goalie with just under 8:00 left in the game, and Corey Andonovski quickly scored off a faceoff to cut the deficit to three. The Tigers again went with an extra attacker after that goal, and took 21 shot attempts over the game's final 7:43 but could not get any closer. An empty-net goal from Steven Townley with 23 seconds left was the final number for the Big Green.
The Tigers head to New England this weekend, taking on Harvard (February 18) and Dartmouth (February 19) fort 7 p.m. faceoffs.
