Men's Volleyball Earns Season Sweep of St. Francis Brooklyn

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University men's volleyball team earned the season sweep of St. Francis College Brooklyn Wednesday night inside Dillon Gymnasium, downing the Terriers 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-22.)
Sophomore James Hartley led the way for Princeton, leading the match with 12 kills on a .409 hitting percentage. Senior Joe Kelly had a match-high 35 assists, and senior Jerod Nelsen tied the match-high in digs, with eight. First year Nyherowo Omene was a force defensively, recording a match and career-high eight blocks.
An early 4-0 run that featured a pair of errors by the Terriers, along with a block and a kill by sophomore Ben Harrington saw Princeton take a 5-3 lead. Princeton maintained control of the set, with kills by sophomore Gavin Leising and Hartley giving the Tigers a 14-11 lead. A 3-0 run, sparked by an Omene kill saw Princeton jump ahead by five, 17-12, and the Tigers take the first set, 25-19.
The Tigers picked up where they left off in the second set; a Hartley kill sparked a 4-0 run, giving Princeton a 6-11 advantage. With Princeton ahead 15-9, a kill by Hartley led off another 4-0 run, this time giving the Tigers a 19-9 lead after an Omene kill. A kill by Harrington on set point saw the Tigers prevail in the second set, 25-13.
With assistance from four-straight attacking errors, Princeton took an early 4-1 lead in the third set. With the Tigers ahead 16-14, St. Francis Brooklyn used a 4-0 run jump in front, 18-16. Following a timeout the Tigers would regroup, and a kill by Omene led off a 5-0 run that gave the Tigers a 21-18 lead. Princeton stayed in control from there, winning the set 25-22, and the match 3-0.
