Cover Earns At-Large Bid to NCAAs as Princeton's Sixth Qualifier
March 08, 2022 | Wrestling
Matt Cover won three times in consolation bouts to make the consolation semis, needing one more win to clinch an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
That one last needed win didn't go Cover's way, but the NCAA's at-large announcement on Tuesday did, awarding one of five at-large bids at heavyweight to the Princeton sophomore to make his NCAA Championship debut.
Cover's addition gives Princeton six NCAA Championship qualifiers, along with automatic qualifiers Patrick Glory (125), Marshall Keller (149), Quincy Monday (157), Travis Stefanik (184) and Luke Stout (197).
Princeton's six qualifiers are tied for the second-most in program history, even with 2019 and 2020 and just one fewer than the seven qualifiers Princeton earned in 2017.
The NCAA Championships are set for March 17-19 in Detroit.
