Following the program's third Ivy League title in the last four Ivy tournaments, the Princeton women's golf team can now celebrate having the 2022 Ivy League Rookie and Coach of the Year, as well as three All-Ivy League honorees.
For the first time since the award was inaugurated in 2009, Princeton has the Ivy Rookie of the Year with Ivy medalist Victoria Liu, and for the second time in her tenure with the Tigers, Erika DeSanty is the Ivy League Coach of the Year.
Playing in every Princeton event, Liu had two tournament wins (Ivy, Low Country), four top-two and six top-10 finishes across eight stroke-play tournaments, carrying a stroke average of 73.38. Liu became Princeton's second rookie to win Ivy League Championship medalist honors, along with eventual three-time league champion Avery Kiser '05.
DeSanty's Coach of the Year honor is her second, along with 2017. Princeton has won four tournament titles in 2021-22, raising the program's total under DeSanty to 16, the second-most of any coach in program history behind Eric Stein's 35 from 1992-2005. The four tournament titles are the program's most in a season since winning four in 2004-05 and tied for second most in a season in program history (five, 1994-95).
Top-five finishes and ties at the Ivy League Championships earned first-team All-Ivy honors while top-10 finishers earned second-team recognition, giving Liu first-team All-Ivy honors as tournament champion and second-team honors for Yu Kyung Kim and Kyung Eun Lee.Â
Kim, who finished seventh at the Ivy League Championships, had two top-three and three top-10 finishes over the course of the fall and spring seasons, earning a stroke average of 74.33.Â
Lee, who tied for 10th at Ivies, had three top-10 finishes on the year, tying for sixth at the Princeton Invitational in the fall and earning a stroke average of 74.28.
Senior Emma Zhao, who majors in operations research and financial engineering, earned the program's place on the Academic All-Ivy League list after competing in five events between the fall and spring seasons and holding a stroke average of 77.08 across four stroke-play events.
Princeton will compete at the NCAA Regionals, set for May 9-11. Princeton's destination from among the six regionals will be announced on Wednesday at 4 p.m. on the Golf Channel.
