Ivy Champion Women’s Tennis Wins Two Major Awards, Five Named All-Conference

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Ivy League announced its postseason awards for women's tennis Thursday afternoon, and the Princeton University women's tennis team garnered a pair of major awards as Head Coach Laura Granville was named Coach of the Year for the fifth time, and sophomore Neha Velaga was named Rookie of the Year.
Additionally, five Tigers received All-Ivy League honors; Velaga and junior Daria Frayman were named to the First Team, freshman Victoria Hu to the Second, along with junior Grace Joyce and sophomore Maia Sung, who were named to the Second Team in doubles.
A five-time Ivy League Coach of the Year, Granville also received the conference's top coaching honor in 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019. The Ivy League Coach of the Year has been awarded for just six years, and Granville has won all but one of them, guiding the Tigers to six of the last seven Ivy League championships. Under Granville's guidance, the Tigers have three-peated twice; from 2014-16, and from 2018-22.
Velaga, the Ivy League Rookie of the Year, went undefeated in conference play and had a perfect 6-0 record. She played at the No. 2 spot in all six matches. On the season, she has a 21-12 record, a 10-6 record in dual matches, and wins over a pair of ranked opponents (No. 48 Ellie Coleman of Duke University, No. 125 Abigail Desiatnikov of the University of San Diego.)
Frayman, currently ranked No. 3 in the nation in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, became the first Ivy Player to earn the nation's No. 1 ranking on Tuesday, March 9. Playing at the No. 1 position, Frayman finished with a 3-1 record in conference play. In the Tigers' Ivy opener against the University of Pennsylvania, she overcame No. 119 Iulia Bryzgalova.
A Second Team All-Ivy honoree, Hu finished Ivy League play with a 4-0 record. Her ITA ranking rose as high as No. 23 on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, and she has 11 wins over nationally-ranked opponents so far this season.
Joyce and Sung, named Second Team All-Ivy League in doubles, had a 4-2 record in Ivy play. On the season, Joyce has 14 doubles wins, while Sung has 11.
Additionally, senior Nathalie Rodilosso, a Public & International Affairs major, also garnered Academic All-Ivy League honors.
Princeton will find out its NCAA Tournament Regional location and opponent during the selection show on Monday, May 2, at 6:30 p.m. ET.
