Ivy Champion Princeton Ticketed for Arkansas for NCAA Regional
May 15, 2022 | Softball
Arkansas will be the NCAA tournament destination for the Ivy League champion Princeton softball team, the Tigers learned Sunday night on the ESPN2-televised selection show.
The bid comes after Princeton won the Ivy League Playoff Series on Sunday over Ivy runner-up Harvard, a title that came two weeks after Princeton finished off its 20th Ivy League title with a sweep at Columbia that cemented a 17-4 record in league play. The Tigers have won three of the last five awarded Ivy League titles, including 2016 and 2017.Â
Princeton's best-of-three series win over Harvard moved the Tigers to 27-15-2 overall, Princeton's most wins since the 2013 season.Â
The NCAA tournament bid is Princeton's 11th, and it will be Princeton's second at an SEC-host school. The Tigers played the 2006 regional at LSU. Princeton and Arkansas have never met in softball.
After Princeton and Arkansas meet at 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. local time in the SEC Network-televised opener, the Tigers will return on Saturday in the double-elimination tournament to face either Oregon or Wichita State. Princeton has faced each of those schools once, with Oregon winning in 1996 and Wichita State winning in 1998, both in regular-season tournaments.
